- John H. Twachtman (1853-1902) was one of American's greatest
Impressionists. The Cincinnati native experimented in printmaking,
producing a small body of work -- 29 etchings and one lithograph.
This etching, called Mill in Holland in Baskett's catalog
raisonne, was produced between 1884 and 1889. Written on the
sheet at the bottom are the words "Weeds & Mill Holland."
The etching is pencil-signed by the artist's son, Alden Twachtman.
The catalog lists 24 known impressions -- two lifetime, 22 posthumous.
This etching is from the posthumous printing done for Frederick
Keppel & Co. in 1921 and authorized by the family.
